Seattle Kraken Fall to Flames in Preseason Shootout
In a closely contested preseason matchup, the Seattle Kraken lost to the Calgary Flames 2-1 in a shootout. Despite outshooting the Flames 36 to 21 and registering 40 hits compared to Calgary's 20, the Kraken couldn't secure a win. The Flames' goaltender, Dustin Wolf, was formidable, allowing only one goal against. Philip Grubauer performed admirably in the Kraken's net, stopping 20 of 21 shots.
Berkley Catton stood out for the Kraken, netting their only goal in the second period with help from Matty Beniers and Jani Nyman. He also made crucial defensive plays, including two blocked shots during a Flames offensive push in the third period, which helped maintain a tie and push the game into overtime. Unfortunately, defenseman Vince Dunn left the game early due to a suspected injury after a high-stick incident.
With Matvei Griden scoring the Flames' regulation goal and the shootout winner, he was named the game's first star. The Kraken will face the Edmonton Oilers next, their final preseason game before the regular season opener against the Anaheim Ducks on October 9th.
