Colorado Eagles Welcome Mackenzie Blackwood on Conditioning Loan
The Colorado Avalanche have announced that goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood will join their AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles, on a conditioning loan. This move comes as Blackwood has yet to participate in the current season due to a lower-body injury sustained during the offseason, which kept him out of training camp. In his absence, veteran Scott Wedgewood has stepped up as the Avalanche's backup goalie, performing well in the early part of the season.
Blackwood, who is entering his first full season with the Avalanche after being acquired from the San Jose Sharks last December, boasts an impressive record from the previous season. He has signed a five-year contract with an average annual value of $5.25 million. The conditioning loan allows him to play with the Eagles for up to 14 days, during which the team has five scheduled games. This isn't the first time a prominent Avalanche player has played with the Eagles for conditioning, as captain Gabriel Landeskog did the same last season.
